Les rues

Romain Rossi & Camille Dereux

Some records you listen to, others you walk through. Les rues (The Streets), the debut solo EP by Romain Rossi in duo with Camille Dereux, belongs to the second category : a 19-minute nocturnal drift.

The EP unfolds in four distinct movements : an experimental, tortured intro, a synth-pop section driven by a drum machine, an indie-synth passage, a plunge into electro, then a return through indie pop. One phrase in French runs through the whole thing like a haunting refrain : “Les rues sont calmes, les rues se calment, alors qu’en moi c’est la tempête, ces pensées, ces voix, rien ne s’arrête.” Between these returns, English lyrics, vocalises, deep reverbs. The geography is clear : Paris-Berlin, at night, streets emptied outside and saturated within.

Award-winning film composer (From Abdul to Leila — Best Film at Tétouan, Best Documentary at Rotterdam and Aarhus, NETPAC Award at El Gouna), festival Les Ondes at Cerbère (May 2026) — experimental music, guitarist and pianist who spent eleven years in Berlin, Romain Rossi has long written for others. Les rues is his first personal signature — a soundtrack without a film, or rather a soundtrack in which each listener becomes the lead character.

Composed at the close of Romain’s studies at the American School of Modern Music (Paris), Les rues draws on his cardinal influences — Morricone, François de Roubaix, Francis Lai, John Carpenter, Tangerine Dream, Nils Frahm, Radiohead, Portishead, LCD Soundsystem — in a dark, melancholic writing steeped in analogue synthesisers and 70s film music.

Music

At Imrens

At Imrens is the joint project of Romain Rossi and Finnish musician Martti Kaartinen. Blending dark swing and electro ambient, their music is rooted in a cinematic aesthetic tinged with 70s French references — an indie, unsettling atmosphere somewhere between a film noir soundtrack and a sleepless night.
